Lettersonic

a concrete poetry performance

Like water turns into ice and ice melts back to water, this performance is about the transcending of letters from visual to sonic state and back.

The shapes of 52 letters of english alphabet (capital and small registers) have been drawn by the artist Tatiana Kolganova specifically for this project. The visual shape of each letter has been converted into sound by a software which based on the unique Russian photoelectronic synthesiser ANS.

During the performance the resulting sound goes through a spectrum analyzer, creating a sonogram, or the visual representation of the sound. The sonogram appears gradually, recreating the image of the letter from its sonic state.
